1337 to 1453 - The Hundred Years' War, Guerre de Cent Ans was a series of conflicts waged from 1337 to 1453 by the House of Plantagenet, rulers of the Kingdom of England, against the House of Valois, rulers of the Kingdom of France, over the succession to the French throne. Each side drew many allies into the war. It was one of the most notable conflicts of the Middle Ages, in which five generations of kings from two rival dynasties fought for the throne of the largest kingdom in Western Europe. The war marked both the height of chivalry and its subsequent decline, and the development of strong national identities in both countries.

The battle, fought between King Edward III of England and Philippe VI of France during the early stages of the Hundred Years War, involved tens of thousands of soldiers. It ended with a major English victory and the French army crippled. Historians have often pointed to it as being one the most important battles of the medieval period, noted especially for the use of the longbow within it.

1415-10-25 The Battle of Agincourt took place on 25 October 1415 in modern-day Azincourt in northern France. Henry V led his troops to an unexpected victory to defeat the French and make his claim to the throne of France. Much of what we remember about Agincourt comes from Shakespeare’s play, Henry V, but how much of this is based on fact?"

Role of Welsh Bowmen
"The victory of the English at Agincourt is still frequently attributed in the popu-lar consciousness to Welsh bowmen in their knitted Monmouth caps. The battle is undoubtedly part of a wider patriotic narrative in both England and Wales. The belief in the English victory being a result of Welsh efforts, though ubiquitous, is almost impossible to reference in a way that might satisfy the editor of an academic journal."
